Interval Guesser FAQ & Guide

What is the Interval Guesser game?

Interval Guesser is an interactive fretboard training game designed to help you master interval relationships. Two notes are displayed on the fretboard: a red root note and a black target note. Your goal is to identify the interval distance of the black note relative to the red root note.

How do color-coded note markers work?

The note markers use distinct color coding for clarity: red always represents the root note, while black represents the interval note you are trying to guess. You are always measuring and guessing the interval distance starting from the red root to the black note.

Can I choose which intervals appear in the game?

Yes! You can customize the active interval pool to match your learning goals. Use the interval selection options to add or remove specific intervals (such as minor 3rds, perfect 5ths, or major 7ths) so you can focus on mastering exact interval pairs.

How does the audio playback help with interval recognition?

Turning on the speaker option plays the root and target notes out loud (either sequentially or simultaneously). This combines visual fretboard training with relative pitch ear training to strengthen your interval recall.

How do I restrict practice to specific frets or strings?

You can toggle individual frets on or off by clicking the fret numbers directly beneath the fretboard. To filter specific strings, open the cogwheel (settings menu) and use the string selection toggles.

What other customization options are available in the cogwheel?

The cogwheel settings menu provides extensive control over your setup. You can adjust instrument tunings, set custom string and fret counts, enable left-handed mode, switch to vertical orientation, and configure banjo drone strings.
